Josh Ring's Track Meet
Josh Ring

I set my alarm for 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. I had a high school track meet to
go to. When the alarm went off, I hit the snooze. I woke up 15 minutes
later. The sound of rain hitting my window reminded me to call my track
coach to make sure the meet wasn't rained out.

The previous night, I placed my phone on a chair right to the side of my
bed. I didn't want to have to get out of bed to call my coach. I called the
number she gave me, but she didn't pick up. It was the sound of a young
girl. I strained my voice to sound more awake and asked if my coach was
there. "No, she went out. Are you calling about the track meet?" I told her
I was. "Oh, it's canceled." I had a feeling she would say that.

I thanked her and hung up the phone. I lay back down on my back and
closed my eyes. I must have fallen asleep. I woke up 5 hours later and
took a shower. That was my rain plan. It worked out well.
